Authentications and Visas

The Los Angeles Consulate accepts visa applications from all applicants from all states. Please scroll down for visa information.

Document Authentications

The following states or territories are serviced by the Consulate in Los Angeles for document authentications: Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands. The Consulate will only authenticate documents with State Seals from the Secretary of State and the Lt. Governor from Hawaii.

Your first step is to get your document/s notarized, county sealed (in states where applicable), and state sealed by the Secretary of State  or Lt. Governor for Hawaii (separate page attached). Birth and marriage certificates must also be State Sealed by the Secretary of State (separate page attached) before being submitted to the Consulate in Los Angeles.  Courier service is provided to most Southern California Counties and to the California Secretary of State in Los Angeles.  Details can be found by clicking on Other Services.

Once the above has been completed,  your document/s will be hand carried to the Consulate in Los Angeles. When sending your documents always send them by a trackable service such as, Fed Ex, Express Mail, or UPS.

All Consulates and the Embassy do not expedite through the mail.  You must use a courier or apply in person for expedited service.  Authentications by mail take approximately two weeks or longer.
